Verizon Motorola DROID X announced; coming on July 15th for $199

Verizon Wireless today at a big event organized in New York unveiled the next generation droid the Motorola Droid X smartphone. The Motorola DROID X will feature a 4.3-inch high-resolution screen, Android 2.1 OS (OTA upgrade to 2.2 later this summer), a very fast 1GHz processor (TI OMAP 3640), 3G Mobile HotSpot capabilities, support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1 and access to more than 65,000 applications on the Android Market. Whats more is that the DROID X users will receive an OTA (over-the-air) update to the latest Android 2.2 OS and Adobe Flash Player 10.1 in the latter half of the summer.

It alos features a 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and 720p video recording, HDMI out, three microphones (one for video, one for voice, and one for noise cancellation), and 8 GB of internal storage with a microSD slot that supports up to a 32 GB microSD card.

Motorola Droid X Pricing, Plans and Availability

DROID X by Motorola will be sold at all Verizon Wireless Communications Stores beginning July 15 with a 2-year contract for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate. You can also get it  online at www.verizonwireless.com. In addition to subscribing to a Nationwide Talk plan or a Nationwide Talk & Text plan, customers will also need to subscribe to an Email and Web for Smartphone plan.  Nationwide Talk plans begin at $39.99 monthly access.  Email and Web for Smartphone plans start at $29.99 for unlimited monthly access.

Customers can add the optional 3G Mobile Hotspot service to their DROID X for $20 per month. The 3G Mobile Hotspot allows customers to turn the phone into a wireless modem for up to five compatible Wi-Fi devices.  In addition, current Verizon Wireless customers who have contracts ending by December 31, 2010, can upgrade to any smartphone, including DROID X, without penalty.
