RIM to roll out BIS 3.0 on March 28th

RIM has announced that it will be updating its servers to BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) 3.0 on between 2AM and 6AM EDT on Sunday, March 28th. So BlackBerry users will be out of service during this time. BIS 3.0 has good enhancements like 2-way Gmail sync, the ability to add/delete Gmail labels, support for .wma and OpenOffice files and more.


BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) 3.0 New/Enhanced Features:

  • Updates to the Enhanced Google MailTM plug-in for BlackBerry smartphones.
  • Synchronization deleted messages, read / unread and sent between the box and your own Gmail
  • Increased attachment compatibility
    - OpenDocument presentations (.odp)
    - OpenDocument spreadsheets (.ods)
    - OpenDocument text (.odt) 
    - OpenDocument text templates (.ott)
    - Windows Media® Audio (.wma)
  • Improved email setup flow for HTML access
    - xHTML Support for non-Thick Clients
  • Device switch revalidation
  • Carrier Friendly Names
  • Hosted email address passwords
