iPhone 3GS news roundup: One million Sold, $30 iTunes Credit and Sound issues
Apple has today officially announced that it has sold over one million iPhone 3G S units during the device’s launch weekend, through Sunday, June 21. Despite the seemingly shorter lines for the iPhone 3G S, the pre-ordering process seems to have done the trick. In addition, the company revealed that more than six million customers have downloaded iPhone OS 3.0 since its release on Wednesday.
In other iPhone 3GS news, apple has sent emails to all its new iPhone 3GS customers who faced activation delays over the launch weekend. In the email Apple says that it is giving away a $30 iTunes credit to everyone who faced activation issues. The email says:
Dear Apple Customer,
Thank you for your recent Apple Store order. We appreciate your patience and apologize for the inconvenience caused by the delay in your iPhone activation. We are still resolving the issue that was encountered while activating your iPhone with AT&T. Unfortunately, due to system issues and continued high activation volumes, this could take us up to an additional 48 hours to complete.
On Monday, you’ll receive an email from Apple with an iTunes Store credit in the amount of $30. We hope you will enjoy this gift and accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience this delay has caused.
Thank you for choosing Apple.
Sincerely,
Apple Online Store Team
Some iPhone 3GS users, in fact many of them, hear a high-pitched tone emanating from the device’s speaker when playing any system sound. This happens when ever the phone makes a noise—such as when using the keyboard or locking/unlocking the iPhone. It has been discussed in detail in the Apple Forum thread
