HTC Incredible vs. Motorola Droid vs. HTC HD2 vs. iPhone 3GS compared

The latest Android-powered smartphone, the HTC Incredible on Verizon went on sale Thursday for $200 with a two-year contract and the latest news is that apparently it has sold out within a couple of hours and people who want the phone now will have to wait till 7th of may. With its introduction, now there are 4 incredible touchscreen smartphones to choose from, for anybody who is looking for a new phone. To help in making that important decision here is a feature by feature comparison of the smartphones.

HTC Incredible vs. Motorola Droid vs. HTC HD2 vs. iPhone 3GS

Display

With touch screen smartphones the bigger the screen the better it is.

HTC Incredible:

The Incredible features a 3.7-inch (480×800) WVGA AMOLED display.

Motorola Droid:

The Droid features a 3.7-inch WVGA (480 x 854 pixels) display

HTC HD2:

HD2 features a WVGA screen with 800-by-480-pixel resolution and 4.3-inch

iPhone 3GS:

The iPhone features a 3.5-inch screen with 480-by-320 pixel resolution

In terms just the real estate, the HD2 has the largest screen at 4.3-inch. Comparable to it are the Droid and the Incredible with 3.7-inch. But the Incredible features the OLED technology that is lacking in both the HD2 and Droid. OLED Technology provides for blazing fast response times, wide viewing angles, exceptional color reproduction, outstanding Contrast levels, and high Brightness. Considering this the winner in the Display category is the HTC Incredible.

Processor

HTC Incredible & HTC HD2:

Both feature the Qualcomm 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

Motorola Droid:

550MHz Arm Cortex A8 processor

iPhone 3GS:

600MHz Arm Cortex A8 processor

Just going by the numbers it is clear that the Incredible and the HD2 are superfast in terms of performance with 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It is worth noting that the iPhone features a dedicated PowerVR graphics processing unit for gaming needs that makes up for the lack in power of the processor. But still the HD2 and Incredible are the tied winners in this category.

Camera

HTC Incredible vs. Motorola Droid vs. HTC HD2 vs. iPhone 3GS compared

HTC Incredible:

8 Megapixel camera with autofocus, dual-LED flash. Shoot high-quality video at 800 x 480 resolution.

HTC HD2:

5 Megapixel camera with autofocus, dual-LED flash. Shoots VGA (640 x 480) video clips.

Motorola Droid:

5 Megapixel camera with autofocus, dual-LED flash. Video quality at 720×480 resolution.

iPhone 3GS:

3 Megapixel camera with autofocus, with no flash or manual controls. Shoot VGA (640 x 480) video.

The clear winner in this category is the HTC Droid Incredible with 8-megapixel shooter with dual-LED flash, plus on-the-fly adjustments for brightness, contrast, and ISO level. The Incredible also shoots high-quality video at 800 x 480 resolution which is the best of all.

Software

HTC Incredible:

Android OS version 2.1

HTC HD2:

Windows Mobile OS 6.5

Motorola Droid:

Android OS version  2.0; soon to have 2.1

iPhone 3GS:

iPhone OS 4.0 (Still to come with Multi-tasking feature)

Windows Mobile OS 6.5 on the HD2 is no match to the Android OS even the HTC sense UI improvements. The Android on HTC beats that of Droid with built-in Sense user interface, which adds subtle touches like a reworked home screen, and more. With the upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 featuring the much wanted Multi-tasking feature and with close to 200,000 iPhone Apps and games, the iPhone OS holds the upper hand when compared to Android OS.

Battery Life

HTC Incredible:

312 minutes of talk time and 149 hours of standby

HTC HD2:

380 minutes of talk time (on the GSM version) and 490 hours of standby.

Motorola Droid:

385 minutes of usage and 270 hours of standby

iPhone 3GS:

300 minutes of usage and 300 hours of standby

The battery life of the HTC incredible is a big surprise with 312 minutes of talk time and only 149 hours of standby since it is even less than the now older competitor iPhone 3GS which itself is known to be a battery drainer. The Droid fairs a little better than the iPhone but the overall winner is the the HTC HD2 with 380 minutes of talk time and a whopping 490 hours of standby.

Memory

HTC Incredible:

8GB of internal memory and up to 32GB card in microSD slot

HTC HD2:

448MB onboard flash memory and microSD card slot capable of holding up to 32GB).

Motorola Droid:

16 GB microSD pre-installed; supports up to 32 GB microSD expandable

iPhone 3GS:

16GB or 32GB built in memory and non-expandable

Droid gives you the better bang for the buck. Priced lowly than the Incredible, HD2 and the iPhone, it comes pre-installed with 16GB microSD card. iPhone beats Incredible because it comes with16GB of built-in memory as compared 8GB for Incredible with both have the same retail price. HD2 has less internal memory but the US buyers will get a16GB microSD card in the box with the phone.

To sum it up the HTC Incredible is the best android phone out there if you forgive its awful battery performance. If you are a gaming and apps enthusiast  then iPhone is what you would want and also it will be worthwhile to wait till June to make a decision since the next generation iPhone is to be availed with Multi-Tasking capabilities.
