Apple to release a 8GB iPhone 3GS soon?

Boy Genius Report has received pictures of some internal Rogers Wireless memo and as per the text on them, it appears that the new 8GB iPhone 3GS will be sold in place of the existing iPhone 3G model. The alleged document says that Rogers has "launched" the new model, and is "aiming to reduce" inventory of the existing stock.
 
While pricing is not mentioned in the partially obscured memo, it does inform readers to continue selling through available stock of the 8GB iPhone 3G while receiving the new handsets, and …

iPhone 3GS news roundup: One million Sold, $30 iTunes Credit and Sound issues

Apple has today officially announced that it has sold over one million iPhone 3G S units during the device’s launch weekend, through Sunday, June 21. Despite the seemingly shorter lines for the iPhone 3G S, the pre-ordering process seems to have done the trick. In addition, the company revealed that more than six million customers have downloaded iPhone OS 3.0 since its release on Wednesday.

Apple today during its presentation at WWDC 2009 introduced the next version of its iPhone called the iPhone 3G S. The “S” stands for “speed,” a reference to the device’s faster processing and increased data transfer speeds. AT&T mull cheaper data service plans for iPhone

AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega has confirmed that the company is contemplating cheaper data service plans with limited Web surfing for advanced cellphones including Apple Inc’s iPhone. The executive said it would be costly for AT&T to cut the price of its unlimited Web surfing service. The minimum plan for iPhone users is $70 a month, which includes unlimited Web surfing and a certain amount of voice calls.

Smartphones sales grew 12.7 precent in First Quarter of 2009

According to a new report from the market research firm Gartner, Smartphone sales surpassed 36.4 million units in the first quarter of 2009, a 12.7 per cent increase from the same period last year. This in spite of worldwide mobile phone sales decreased by 8.6 per cent as compared to the first quarter of 2008.

According to a survey report published by The NPD Group which is a leader in wireless industry market research, RIM’s BlackBerry Curve has moved past Apple’s iPhone to become the best-selling consumer smartphone in the U.S. in the first quarter (Q1) of 2009. This achievement was immensely helped by an aggressive “buy-one-get-one” promotion by Verizon Wireless. The iPhone 3G came in second, followed by the BlackBerry Storm, BlackBerry Pearl, and the T-Mobile G1.

Manufacturer OmniVision is believed to have won the Apple contract to supply the 3.2-megapixel CMOS image sensor to be used in the next version of the iPhone according to Taiwanese rumor site DigiTimes. This corroborates some reports on other websites that claim iPhone maker was due to include a higher-resolution camera with its upcoming handsets that would also be capable of capturing video.

Apple has released its iPhone Software 2.2.1 Update for its touchscreen devices. They include the iPhone, iPhone 3G, first (1st) generation iPod touch and the iPod touch 2g. According to notes provided with the update, the new version containing “bug fixes and improvements” addresses two issues.
First, Apple says the update provides improved stability for the Safari Web browser.
