Verizon confirms BlackBerry Storm OS upgrade on May 31st

BoyGeniusReport has revealed that their sources at VZW confirm a new OS, 4.7.0.148 for the BlackBerry storm 9530, will be released on Sunday, May 31st at 3pm. According to Verizon, this is a “general maintenance release that improves the overall user experience.”

Smartphones sales grew 12.7 precent in First Quarter of 2009

According to a new report from the market research firm Gartner, Smartphone sales surpassed 36.4 million units in the first quarter of 2009, a 12.7 per cent increase from the same period last year. Jim Balsillie co-CEO said during a presentation to analysts and investors that Research In Motion is planning a next-generation version of its touchscreen BlackBerry Storm smartphone as part of a continuing push into the retail market.
Jim Balsillie said, “We see this very large and untapped consumer market”. He added that more than half of RIM’s 25 million subscribers now fall into the non-corporate category.
