Apple’s answer to iPhone 4 antenna, missing bars and signal reception problems
The folks at Engadget shot an email to Apple about the signal reception and missing bars problem that many iPhone 4 owners having been reporting all day today. In response to that, Apple has provided a rather surprising answer and solution. Apple has attributed the problem to the way iPhone is held in the user’s hand.
According to Apple, If you cover the bottom-left corner of the phone and bridge the gap between the notch you could see some signal degradation. Their solution to this is to either move or change your hand position when holding the iPhone, or get a case that covers the side bar.
Here is Apple is own statement:
Gripping any mobile phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.
To me this sounds a bit odd and crazy. A little interference and loss of signal is expected but not to the extent the new iPhone 4 owners have been reporting. I am starting to wonder if Apple knew of this problem beforehand and hence designed the bumper cases that covers the side bars specifically for this. What do you think and are you having the same problem?
