5 must have Motorola Droid Apps

15 November 2009 No Comment

When it comes to Third party applications the Android market is no match to the iPhone App Store which has more than 100,000 apps as compared to around 10,000 for the Android Market. That said there are some very good powerful apps that you must have on your brand new Motorola Droid.

Meebo for Android

Meebo for Android is an Instant Messaging client that can connect and keep track of all your IM accounts like AIM, MSN, Yahoo, MySpace IM, Google Talk, Jabber and ICQ. With this app you’ll never miss a message. Whats more is that Meebo will always stay connected and keeps track of your IM history so you never miss a message. To get this app which is available for free, all you have to do is head over to the Android Market (located on your home screen) on your Droid and search for "Meebo" and follow the instructions.

Google Voice for Mobile

This application created a stir when Apple did not approve this app for iPhone. There is no such problem for Droid. With Google Voice for Mobile app you can make calls and send SMS messages with your Google Voice number directly from your mobile phone. The app is fully integrated with each phone’s contacts, so you can call via Google Voice straight from your address book. The Google Voice for Mobile app is free to install and use. You do need to have an existing Google Voice account, however, for it to work.

Pandora on Android

The Pandora App is a radio streaming app which can be personalized to listen to radio stations based on your favorite artists or songs. Thanks to Android’s multitasking capabilities, you’ll be able listen to the music while you are chatting, tweeting or running other apps which is something that iPhone can’t do.

Twidroid

No application list is complete without a tweeting app. Twidroid is a android based tweeter app which is available as a free and also as a commercial pro version. It supports all standard twitter features like sending and viewing tweets, following and unfollowing users, viewing profiles, etc.

Locale

This is one of the coolest apps. Locale is an app that changes your phone’s settings based on your locations and/or your situation. For example you can set the settings such that the Droid goes in a silent or vibrate mode when you are in office or when you are in a movie theater. When your battery is down Locale can turn off power-hungry components automatically or Locale can let VIP callers always ring through.
